In the drought-stricken 1930s, after Hank from the Joad farm vanishes, his brother Frank seizes the farm and forces sick Luna and her two kids Billy and Anne into a run-down cottage. The siblings stumble on a cellar portal leading to a modern 2026 city full of discarded near-expiry food. They save their mother by scavenging supplies and learn plain Taxco silver jewelry from the 1930s sells for thousands in 2026. Trading the trinkets, they buy tuberculosis medicine for Luna. News alerts them their father Hank will die in a 1933 coal mine disaster, so they plot to get police to rescue him. Reunited, Hank fights to take back the farm. The family brings modern goods back through the time gate, opens a low-cost store to feed starving townsfolk and win support. They defeat Frank in the election and drive him out. Rebuilding their farm, they form close bonds with kind strangers from 2026 — Earl, Andrew’s family and Leo — and celebrate Christmas in warmth.
