Vera Sullivan was forced to transfer schools after striking and injuring Harris—a former principal who had attempted to assault a student. Her grandmother, Clara, used her connections to enroll her in the prestigious Havenbrook Academy, where Vera promised to keep her head down and finish high school. Upon arrival, she witnessed Damon, the student council president, publicly slap Iris, a top student. Damon used his family background and polished public image to mask his crimes; he held three girls—including Lucy—captive in the school basement, forced them to record videos, and stole Lucy’s top physics prize trophy.
At the school dance, Vera witnessed a brutal assault on Iris; she snapped and fought back, directly confronting Damon and his accomplice, a teacher named Evans. After learning the horrific truth about the captives in the basement, Vera abandoned her plan to drop out. Instead, she feigned compliance to infiltrate the student council, seizing the opportunity to gather evidence and crack the basement's security code. Damon’s father, Arthur, sought to keep his son in check by nominating Vera for a prestigious statewide student award. Damon threatened the safety of Iris and Vera’s grandmother to force her to withdraw; Vera appeared to yield while secretly orchestrating a rescue plan.
During the live broadcast of the statewide final review, surveillance footage exposing Damon’s crimes was played publicly. The victims came forward to testify, and Damon’s carefully crafted image shattered as he fell to his knees. Arthur immediately used his influence to cover up the crimes and sent a hitman to intercept Vera, but she—skilled in combat—subdued the attacker, and the police arrived to arrest Damon. Refusing to accept defeat, Arthur bribed witnesses and fabricated evidence, attempting to have Vera committed as mentally unstable. In court, Vera’s side exposed all the perjured testimony, simultaneously bringing to light a cold case involving Arthur’s murder of his wife years earlier. Father and son turned against each other, and Damon ultimately killed Arthur while in prison. With the case finally resolved, Vera won the state's highest honor, and the victimized girls were vindicated. Vera remained convinced that justice need not be begged for; it is the abusers who should be forced to bow their heads.
