Claire was one of UCSF's most promising cancer immunology researchers. She gave it up to become the perfect wife of Ethan Mercer. She believed patience would earn her love. It did not. On the night before she gave birth, Ethan was celebrating his childhood friend Vivian's birthday. Claire went into labor alone. She called him. He said she was joking. Her daughter hung up on her. She signed the C-section consent form by herself. She nearly died on the table. She named her son Elliott Bennett, not Mercer. She stopped waiting. She divorced him. His family laughed. They said she could not survive without their money. They did not know she was a genius researcher. They did not know her brother was the chairman of Polaris Group, a global medical technology giant. She returned to science. She surpassed every doubt. She rebuilt her name. Ethan realized too late what he had lost. Vivian was exposed. The family fell. He knelt outside her door. The door closed. Some things do not come back.
