In his previous life, imperial prince Alex was assassinated by his jealous brother Cassius at the coronation ceremony, and only at the point of death did he understand the emptiness behind glory. Reborn back at the sacred mate-selection ceremony, he gives up the noble lady Livia and chooses a flower-selling girl named Elena, willing to lose his prince status for her. The two live a poor but warm life, yet Cassius's persecution comes one after another, and he even slanders Elena's token as stolen goods. To prove his wife's innocence, Alex undertakes the burning divine trial of the steps. At the desperate moment when he is about to be executed, Elena reveals her true identity—she is actually Athena, the goddess of war. However, love between a mortal and a goddess is not accepted by the divine realm, and Alex must pass the test of letting go of his past-life obsessions to truly stand beside the goddess and reclaim his own life. But just then, an even greater crisis has already quietly arrived.
