Evelyn concealed her identity as a top-tier family heiress, living as a housewife on Long Island for twenty years, secretly using her connections to propel the poor young Richard to a high-ranking partner on Wall Street. On their silver wedding anniversary, Richard dumped exorbitant property taxes and joint debts on her, colluding with his ungrateful son to exploit loopholes in the trust agreement to force her to leave with nothing, and openly brought a young public relations professional to a high-society dinner in her place.
