Kaius, the Sea God worshipped by mortals for three thousand years, comes ashore disguised as a penniless beggar, seeking the missing piece that will make the Trident accept him. There he meets Ayla, a governor’s daughter being forced into marriage with a cruel elderly lord. She chooses Kaius instead, and the two bind themselves through the unbreakable Oath of Salt.Soon after, Kaius is forcibly summoned back to the Deep Sea Royal Court. He promises to return in five days, unaware that five days beneath the sea will become five years on land. During his absence, Ayla raises their twins, Leon and Nari, alone while enduring years of humiliation and abuse. When Kaius finally returns, he sacrifices his divine power to protect his family. As the nine Tide Marks awaken one by one, his lost godhood returns. With Moira revealing his true identity, Ayla finally brings her enemies to judgment. In the end, Kaius reclaims the Trident—and shares the power of the entire ocean with the woman who chose him when he had nothing.
